Secondly, the Sunday Bloody Sunday one is all wrong.
the first riff is great, that's perfect, but nothing else
works. try this;
for the bridge, just 'D' & 'G' chords, or
----2---3-----2---3----------
----3---3-----3---3----------
----2---0-----2---0----------
----0---0-----0---0----------
----0---x-----0---x----------
--------0---------3---------- ...
for the chorus, try this...
------------------------------------------
---4-4-4----7-7-7-----12-12-12---12-14-12-
---4-4-4----7-7-7-----12-12-12---12-14-12-
---4-4-4----7-7-7-----12-12-12---12-12-12-
---2-2-2----9-9-9-----10-10-10---10-10-10-
------------------------------------------
this is the way the edge plays it in concert...watch his fingers.
The solo is pretty much okay, but after the
-12-10-----------
--0--0--12--10---
---------0---0---
part, at the beginning, you should play the high 'e' string for
the entire next part.
-0--0---0--0--0--0--0--0---
10--10--8--8--7--7--5--5---
---------------------------
--------------------------
---------------------------
---------------------------
etc......
hope this helps...
These are just a few things I changed when I play the tab for
"Sunday Bloody Sunday", by U2.
First, during the power chords riff, the chords should be:
Bm D G
7 5 x
7 7 12
7 7 12
9 7 12
9 5 10
*note: THE ONLY DIFFERENCE HERE IS THE D CHORD
Also, I have a tab for the harmonics part:
e--------------8------14----------
b------8---8---------------15----- Repeat this same formation
g---7-----------------------------
The rest of the tab for the song is on. Don't forget to tune down the
guitar a half step for the song.

"Sunday Bloody Sunday"
Live version from Popmart
The Popmart version of Sunday Bloody Sunday is no different than any
other version of Sunday Bloody Sunday in terms of the way you play it.
It is different in terms of the actual chords though.
Anyway, here's how you play it:
STICK A CAPO ON THE FIFTH FRET, AND MAKE SURE YOUR GUITAR IS TUNED DOWN
A HALF STEP. (If you are not tuned down, then put the capo on the 4th).
All chords and tab are with respect to the capo.
Use some delay, set to about 0.4 seconds.
OPENING/VERSE
e-----2-------2-------0-------0----
b---3---3---3---3---3---3---3---3-- Repeat this throughout.
g-4-------2-------0-------0--------
For the first bridge - "How long, how long must we..."
Play the following chords, as in the old version, and play them
apperegio (picking one at a time); I am not sure of the exact tab for
this part, but the chords are:
D Em
How long, how long must we sing this song
D G
How long, how long........
When you get to the "...tonight, we can be as one..."
return to the opening/verse tab.
Now, the first time "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is sang in the chorus, Egde
play some sort of muted harmonics, similar to the old version again, and
the tab, with respect to the capo is:
e----------8------14----
b----8---8-----------15- This may not be right, but it's close.
g--7--------------------
Then, again, return to the opening/verse tab.
When the verse hits the bridge again, "How Long,..."
Strum the D, Em, D, G chords, and then play the following chords
for the "Tonight..." part:
CHORDS: (I watched Edge play it this way)
Bm x24432
D x5777x
G 355433
Bm D G
Tonight...we can be as one
Bm D G Bm D G Bm D G
Tonight.......tonight, tonight, tonight tonight
Then, for the rest of the song, return to the opening/verse tab and
bridge tab. I highly suggest listening to a copy of the song. The most
available source is the Sarajevo Concert.
Anyway, good luck playing it, and email if you have any questions or
comments.

This song is played with the guitar tuned down * step, and a capo on the
fifth fret. If you donšt tune down, put the capo on the fourth. It is
played using a clean tone. This is the COMPLETE song. If there are any
mistakes for these versions, I didnšt hear them. The lyrics appear BELOW
the part that is played along with them.

That's an easy way to do it, Edge throws some high (~15 on a guitar)
notes during live performances, which sound to me to be chaotic, but we
all know Edge...
The solo:

I got lazy after figuring out the solo tab, so there are varies palm
mutes and more repeats on the verses/chorus parts than what I put down,
but it's very easy to pick up on from the album, or especially a live
version.
All the rest of the song's little fills and riffs that you hear are those
two chords, Dsus4 and Esus4. The other chords listed in the lyrics above
are correct, but they are useful as a key guide only, or perhaps an
acoustic version...

Hello this is Ian Smistad from Calgary Alberta Canada .I noticed that there was
something wrong with the solo from "New Years Day" so I decided to fix It.
The first part is OK except for one little thing
e--19-15-17-11-14-9-12-6-------
A------------------------------
G------------------------------
D------------------------------
B------------------------------
E------------------------------
The second part sounded WAY off when I tried to play along to the song. You could
either put the capo on the 4th fret (and figure out the rest of the chords) or
just do in the hard way.
B------9--6--11--4--6-----9-6-14-14-13/9-14-13-13/6-14-13-13-14-16-13
E--4--9--------------4-6-9-------------------------------------------
As for the rest it looks pretty good from here!
Please mail me with any comments or suggestions. I would like to get to meet some
other U2 fans from around the world!

"Like A Song"#####
U2, from War (1983)
####################
one of my favorite U2 songs and it was miserable for me to figure out but its
really simple...
tune down 1/2 step...
VERSE:
Em D A
(good luck with the timing):
Eb---------------------------------
Bb---0-------3--------0----------
Gb------0-------2--------2-------
Db-2------2------------------2---
Ab------------------0-------------
Eb---------------------------------
SOLO:
Ascends up the second string - figuring it out's pretty simple - and
the rhythm parts are all three-note power chords consisting of the 1st, 5th
and 8th notes of the scale.
e.g. "Angry words won't stop my fight" is a G power chord with the root on
the fourth string, fifth
fret which then slides up two frets to A for the next line.
Like a song I have to sing,
I sing it for you.
Like the words I have to bring,
I bring then to you.
And in leather, lace, or chains,
We stake our claim,
Revolution once again
But I won't,
I won't wear it on my sleeve.
I can see through this expression
And you know i don't believe.
I'm too old to be told,
Exactly who are you?
Tonight, tomorrow's too late.
And we love to wear a badge, a uniform,
And we love to fly a flag.
But I won't let others live in hell,
As we divide against each other and fight amongst ourselves.
Too set in our ways to try to rearrange,
Too right to be wrong, in this rebel song.
Let the bells ring out, in there nothing left?
Is honesty what you want?
A generation without name, ripped and torn,
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain,
Nothing at all.
And if you can't help yourself,
Well take a look around you, when others need your time.
You say it's time to go it's your time.
Angry words won't stop the fight.
Twowrongs won't make a right.
A new heart is what I need,
Oh God, make it bleed,
Is there nothing left?

Drowning Man#
#############
Remeber to tune down half a step.
For the introduction, simply alternate between Em and D like this:
Em D Em D
Take my hand.....
For the remainder of the song, simply alternate between the Em and C chords.
William F. Maton
646379@acadvm1.uottawa.ca
The tab on drowning man needs a little assistance. The chords are great, but they forgot the harmonics. Edge
plays the 1,2,3rd strings(or Harmonic Em Chord) on the fifth fret, then the 2,3,4th strings on the 7th fret(or
Harmonic DMaj. Chord), back to the Harmonic Em chord on the 5th fret, to the Harmonic DMaj. Chord on the 7th
fret and then finally ends the cycle with the Harmonic Em Chord on the 12th fret(which would be 1,2,3rd
strings ion the 12th fret). Now all that needs to happens is for them to be played with the right rythm; but
these are the positions.
This is the order:
-Harmonic Em Chord on the 5th fret
-Harmonic DMaj. Chord on the 7th fret
-Harmonic Em Chord on the 5th fret
-Harmonic DMaj. Chord on the 7th fret
-Harmonic Em Chord on the 12th fret
Hopefully this is helpful.

the rest of the song involves Em and C chords repeated over and over...
Take my hand
You know I'll be there
If you can I'll cross
The sky for your love
For I have promised for
To be with you tonight
And for the time that will come
Take my hand
You know I'll be there
If you can I'll cross
The sky for your love
And I understand
These winds and tides
This change of times
Won't drag you away
Hold on, hold on tightly
Hold on and don't let go
Of my love
The storms will pass
It won't be long now
The storms will pass
But my love lasts forever
And take my hand
You know I'll be there
If you can, I'll cross the sky
For your love
Give you what I hold dear
Hold on, hold on tightly
Rise up, rise up with wings
Like eagles you'll run, you'll run
You'll run and not grow weary
Take my hand, take my hand
Hold on, hold on tightly
Hold on, hold on tightly
This love lasts forever
This love lasts forever
Take my hand

The Refugee#
############
tabbed by
U2 version, from "War" (1983)
I should mention this sounds best on a guitar tuned down half a step,
with a lot of nice, clean, Edge distortion and some small echo or
reverb. My crap Venom amp works great for this song.
Chords: C (3), B, C
C (3): 3 3 5 5 5 3
B: 1 1 3 3 3 1
C: x 3 2 0 1 0
There are "power-chord" versions of C and B here, too, used in the
verse. I'll call it Riff 1 for the hell of it.
(C) (B)
Riff 1: 1 1 3 x x x slide up to 3 3 5 x x x
(C) (Play parentheses palm-muted, then hit the
chords and slide)
E-x------------------------------------------
B-x------------------------------------------
G-x------------------------------------------
D--3->5--------------(3)-(3)-(3)-3->5---------
A--1->3--------------(1)-(1)-(1)-1->3---------
E --1->3--------------(1)-(1)-(1)-1->3---------
It's MUCH easier than I make it sound... listen to the disc (get the
UltraDisc version! :>)
Got it? Play it at the verses, where I've indicated R1.
Bridge:
(C) (C) (B) (C)
E----------------------------------
B--5-----5--5-5->3-3-->1----------
G-----5-----5-5->3-3---0----------
D-----------5-5->3-3-->2----------
A----------------------3----------
E---------------------------------
Easy, just play the barred C chord arpeggiated, hit the chord,
slide down to B, hit it twice, then quickly switch to the regular C
chord. I wish I could make it sound as simple on paper as it really is...
Here's the lyrics and the chords to go with them. * chords mean you
don't have to play them if you don't want to, it sounds good either way.
The album is w/out them.

I also can't tell if the E should be played in the intro, (or
throughout the song for that matter). The rest of the song repeats in
almost the same manner.

If you're running from yourself
I give you my love
I give you my love
Give you my love
Still you walk away

As you jump to the street below
But where can you go?
To leave the yourself behind
Alone in the spotlight
Of this, your own tragedy
I give you my love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love, love...
In the heart in the heart
In the heart of the city
Heart in the heart in
The heart of the city
Oh, love...
I pour my love out for you

See your not alone

Surrender by U2 #
###################
Transcribed by Richard Zangoli.
Well I saw a transcription of this song on the archive and I don't think it
was extremely accurate, or complete in any case. So this is basically a
complete transcription which I think is reasonably accurate. I transcribed
it from the live version on the Under a Blood Red Sky video and I'm sure
that some of it (like the verse chords) is spot on because I watched how
Edge played it. The album version varies from it a bit but I very much
prefer transcribing live versions (no overdubs, one guitar etc..). So here
it is. For the lyrics have a look at the previous transcription. Tune down
half a step.
The intro is done with natural harmonics- listen to the video for the timing -
E-----------12---12----------------12--12-------------------------------
B-12--12----12---12-----12--12-----12--12-----12--12----7--7---5--5---7--7--5--5
G-12--12----------------12--12----------------12--12----7--7---5--5---7--7--5--5
D-12--12----------------12--12----------------12--12-------------------
A-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are the two chords over the chorus. The first is some version of an E
and the second is obviously a D.
E----------------------------- E-----------------
B-------------------7--7--7-- and just before B-----5----------
G---9--9--x--x--x---7--7--7- etc.. the fist slide solo G------------7----
D---6--6--x--x--x---7--7--7-- this- D-----------------
A---7--7--x--x--x------------- A-----------------
E---------------------- E-------------------
Now for the first slide solo. I actually play this normally (I hate those
slide things) so I'll tab it that way. If you want to play it with a slide
the notes will be the same so you might just have to change where and how it
is played on the fret board. I'm pretty sure that the notes are accurate but
you'll have to listen to the song for the timing.
E----s/12-----------12----------12------------------12-----------12-------12-12
B-------------15----------15----------15----15------------15----------15--------
G-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E---12--s/15------------15------------15-------------15-------15---s/17-----17--
B-----------------17------------17------------17------------------------------20
G-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E---17--s/19--- Play this twice for the first solo and go back to the verse
B--------------- chords. The second time the solo is played do the same and
G---------------- then play-
These are 7th and one 3rd fret
harmonics
E-----19--s/22----22--s/19------------------------------------------------------
B-------------------------------s/12-s/----------------------------------7-----
G-------------------------------s/14-s/----------------------------7-----------
D------------------------------------------------------------7-----------------3
A------------------------------------------------------7------------------------
E------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slide all the way down the
fretboard here
E-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B----s/20----------------------------------------------------------------------
G------------------------------------s/14-----s/12------------14--12-----14-12
D---------------------------------------------------------12---------12---------
A------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The song ends with harmonics similar to those in the intro. So that seems to
be enough to play all of it unless I missed something. Hope you like it.
Richard Zangoli (ahowden@magna.com.au), signing off, doing my bit to make
the U2
Archive complete as possible.
Surrender
by U2, From the "War" album
Voodoo
Like most of "War", Surrender is tuned down half a step to Eb.
Slide parts come when I get my slide back dammit.
Basically all you're playing during the verses is a steady rhythm of A-D-E-D-A
A: 5 7 7 6 5 5
D: 5 5 7 7 7 x - I usually don't play the e string, because I'm lazy in that chord shape.
E: 7 7 9 9 9 x
At the "Surrender..." lines, I usually bar the top two or three strings at the 12th fret on e, hit twice, then slide them down to 10. This is because I don't have my slide; normally this is where it would go.

listen to the song to get it right, i suppose.
There is both strumming and picking in this song.
The chorus riff :
Riff 2:
e-----------x
b-----------3~2_3
g-----------2
d-----------4
a-----------5
E-----------x
You can barre the entire 2th fret, and play it like sort of a C chord, if you know what i mean.
This is roughly all of it........
Here are the lyrics, and when to play the riffs:
Riff 1 Riff 2
Riff 1 Riff 2
"I've waited patiently on the Lord.....he inclined and heard my cry........he lifted me up out
of the pits......out of the miry clay....."
Riff 1 (reapeat all the way until Riff 2)
Riff 2
"And i will sing.......sing a new song.......i will sing......sing a new song.........How
long.......to sing this song.......how
Riff 1 Riff 2 Riff 1 Riff 2 Riff 1
Riff 2 Riff 1
long.....to sing this song......how long......how long.......how long.....how long......must
we sing this song......."
(Play Riff 1 while waiting for the second verse to start)
Riff 1 Riff 2 Riff 1
Riff 2
"He set my feet upon a rock......made my footsteps firm......many will see.....many will see
and hear.......
The song fades out with The Edge playing Riff 1, and Bono singing: "How long....", and letting
the audience sing along from there.......
As the last riff of the song i use this:
e-----------x
b-----------2
g-----------2
d-----------2
a-----------4
E-----------5
(Strum the riff once, and let the delay fade it out)
That is about it, i guess......i'm horrible with tabs......please let me know of any mistakes.
Hope you like it.......
Thanks!
Jon
